GREENSBORO SFSP FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES 100917.docx Read-Only Compatibility Mode (003).docx

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants for the Greensboro SFSP Foundation scholarship must be:

1.      In need of funds to enable the continued pursuit of a career in the financial services field.

2.      Committed to meaningfully improving the lives of those in our community who may be underserved by our profession as a result of their limited financial resources.

3.      A United States citizen or legal resident living in, or attending school in NC.

4.      A full or part-time student in their third year of study of a university or undergraduate college or final year of a community college program with a demonstrated ability to complete the program.

5.      Be pursuing a course of study that could lead to a career in the financial services field.

Members or immediate family members of the Greensboro SFSP and/or the Greensboro SFSP Foundation are not eligible.

What will be awarded?

Scholarship(s) in the amount of $1,000 with a one-year student or associate membership in the Greensboro Chapter may be awarded for the upcoming year. The cash award(s) will be paid directly to the educational institution or provided to the recipient after verifying the monies are a reimbursement for previously paid tuition.

The number of scholarships awarded in a given year is at the discretion of the Greensboro SFSP Foundation based on available funds, the extent to which candidates meet eligibility requirements and the number of applications received. Based on these criteria, multiple, one or no scholarships may be awarded in a given year.

Additional awards of a one-year student or associate membership in the Greensboro Chapter for the upcoming year may also be made available for strong, eligible candidates not awarded the full scholarship due to limited scholarship funds available.

How do I apply?

To apply, you must complete an application and write a short essay of 1,000 words or less including the following:

·       Describe what led or motivated you to pursue an education in the financial services field, including where you might see yourself in the future.

·       Provide specific examples of a commitment to meaningfully improving the lives of those in our community who may be underserved by our profession as a result of their limited financial means, including why this is important to you.

As part of the application process, applicants must agree to a brief phone interview by a member of the Foundation Committee, should that be deemed beneficial.
