Forensic Accounting - Gather, Analyze, and Report & Year-End Tax and Financial Planning

Abstracts:
  Pasquantonio: Forensic accounting is a specialty practice intended for the use in litigation or dispute resolution. In this course, we will provide a forensic accounting overview and discuss forensic accounting methods. First, we will discuss the stages of a forensic accounting investigation: gather, analyze, and report. Additionally, we will identify typical engagement types in the areas of civil litigation and criminal investigation. Next, we will introduce basic methods of reviewing common financial documents including tax returns and bank statements. Finally, we will demonstrate more advanced methods to review bank statements and financial documents using software applications.
Hiatt: Keith Hiatt will review all pertinent tax law changes since last year, how they affect clients and advisors, and the planning steps advisors should be aware of during the end of year planning season.

Keith S. Hiatt, CPA

Keith is a certified public accountant and partner with the firm Breslow Starling Frost Warner Boger Hiatt PLLC in Greensboro, North Carolina. He has over 35 years of experience in the areas of corporate and individual taxation, with a special emphasis on tax, estate, retirement and financial planning for individuals and owners of closely held businesses.

Keith has a passion for helping individuals and businesses save taxes. He emphasizes the need for tax planning before tax preparation. He assists clients with an & annual financial checkup & as a critical step to stronger financial health. His experience also includes assisting foreign nationals working in the U.S. and U.S. citizens working overseas. Much of this international experience began with his employment with Deloitte, a large international accounting firm (where he was
employed for 11 years).

Keith is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, the Greensboro Estate Planning Council and the Greensboro Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. He has served as president of these two latter organizations. He has attained the Accredited Estate Planner designation from the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils.

Keith received his Bachelors of Science and Masters in Accountancy degrees from Brigham Young University.

Keith is involved in the community. He is a graduate of Leadership Greensboro and his Leadership Greensboro study group helped start HealthServe Inc. - an organization devoted to providing health care to the poor and needy. He is a past board member and Treasurer of the Greensboro Urban Ministry. He continues to be regularly involved with his church and with a local Boy Scout troop (he is an Eagle Scout and loves the outdoors).
