Abstract
:

Course 1 - Tax Return Red Flags for Elder Care Law: Reviewing your client's tax return to identify critical red flags for better planning for the second half of life

 

In this course we'll highlight how a thoughtful review of a client's tax return will raise key issues for planning ahead for the second half of life for legal, financial, health care and tax matters. You'll leave understanding planning options about the types of care available, the large numbers of people affected, how to pay for care, and important planning strategies that can avoid common mistakes and misconceptions. We'll use some examples focusing on how financial professionals can tune into likely problems, to help their clients have a better outcome.

Course 2 -Update on the post-COVID Techno-Industrial “Super Trends” Revolution: 9 Trends & 10 Powerful Impacts on investing, inflation, the economy, businesses, jobs and health care.

While the world has been battling COVID, the powerful super trends of technology accelerators, globalization, and demographics continue to reshape the world. This program will discuss each of the trends, how they magnify each other and the impact on personal financial planning. Examples will include how to help clients avoid trend risks and position themselves to benefit from positive sub trends.

DENNIS TOMAN:

Dennis Toman is the founding attorney and owner of The Elderlaw Firm, an estate, elder care and special needs planning law firm. He founded the law firm in 2002 with the mission of being a trustworthy guide to the elder care journey, for seniors and those who love them.  Dennis is a Board Certified Specialist in Elder Law as well as Estate Planning and Probate through the North Carolina State Bar and he is a past Chair of the NCBA Elder Law Section. He is nationally recognized as being a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) by the National Elder Law Foundation, and he is a member of the invitation-only Council of Advanced Practitioners (CAP) with NAELA. Dennis received his BBS in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

 

Dennis and his wife, Lynne have two adult sons. They live in Greensboro with their two doodles, who provide additional care and comfort for dog lovers who come to the office.

Dennis Stearns has been called “One of the leading scenario experts and futurists in the financial industry” by the Financial Planning Association. Dennis is a CFP practitioner, author of several financial planning books, and is regularly asked to be part of future thinking scenario exercises. He is regularly quoted in major publications including Barrons, The Wall Street Journal, TheStreet.com, Kiplingers and the peer reviewed Journal of Financial Planning. Dennis is president of Stearns Financial, a financial planning and investment management firm with $1.8B under management and offices in Chapel Hill and Greensboro, NC. He has earned three national community services awards and is a former chess master, playing on one of the winningest Pan-American chess teams in U.S. collegiate history.
