2 hrs applied for NC CIE, CFP, CLE, CPE- This course was created for financial service professionals who serve clients facing separation and divorce. Taught by two practicing family law attorneys and a CFP serving mostly women, this course will provide tools and ideas that advisors can use to advise their clients. Outlining typical scenarios and the land mines that surround these issues, advisors will take away a solid framework with which to effectively work with clients.

Elaine Ashley, JD, is a North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization Certified Family Law Specialist, is a North Carolina dispute Resolution certified Family Financial Mediator, and is a trained Collaborative Divorce attorney.  Elaine focuses her practice primarily on family law issues whether through the divorce process or providing pre-marital and post-marital legal services. Elaine has a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University and holds a Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central University.  While obtaining her law degree, she served on the Trial Advocacy Board, served as an assistant associate editor of the Law Journal and was the first place winner of the Willie Gary Trial Competition, which afforded her the opportunity for national trial competition experience. Elaine is a member of the North Carolina Bar, the America Bar Association, the North Carolina State Bar Association, the 18th Judicial District Bar (Greensboro), the Triad Association of Women Attorneys, the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys, the Triad Collaborative Law Group and the International Association of Collaborative Professionals.  Elaine has held leadership positions with the Guilford Bar Association Family Law Section and the Guilford County chapter of the Association of Women Attorneys.  Elaine served as a preceptor for several years at the Elon University School of law beginning with the arrival of the inaugural class in the fall of 2005. Outside of the practice of law, Elaine enjoys spending time with her husband, children, grand-children, and golden retrievers, as well as playing tennis, sailing and enjoying any other watersports.



Afi Johnson-Parris, JD, MBA, is an attorney practicing divorce and family law and veterans disability in Greensboro, NC with Ward Black Law. She is a 2002 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and a published member of its Law Review.   Afi attended the University of Miami on a ROTC scholarship and graduated in 1994 with a BBA in Computer Information Systems.  Before law school, she served her country as an officer in the Air Force and earned an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix- Southern Colorado in 1998.  After law school, Afi began practicing complex civil litigation in Atlanta with Kilpatrick Stockton LLP and relocated to Greensboro in 2006 to practice employment and civil litigation with Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP.  In 2008 she founded her own divorce and family law firm to guide individuals and families through the highs and lows of family life, tackling all matters from prenuptial agreements and adoptions to divorce, alimony and custody actions.  In 2013 she joined forces with Ward Black law to lead their divorce and family law practice and turn her passion for veterans rights into a veterans disability practice. Afi has been recognized in Best Lawyers in 2018 and as the 2017 Business North Carolina Legal Elite overall winner in Family Law.  Afi is active in the community having served on several local, state-wide and national boards and as president of the Greensboro Bar Association. A native of Newport News, Virginia, she enjoys gardening, theater, music, and Parris family adventures with her husband Steven and children Chela, age 14 and Richmond, age 12.


Sherry Campbell, CFP, CDFA, is the 
President of Hutchinson Family Offices, a multi-client family office managing and overseeing the high net-worth family’s wealth. Sherry has over 20 years experience, including national high profile divorce cases. Sherry's primary emphasis is on analyzing the challenging financial issues of high net-worth client’s by providing customized recommendations for divorce settlement and sophisticated planning solutions. Sherry collaborates with top attorneys, accountants, counselors, mediators, and other professionals throughout the country. Sherry's services include evaluation of assets and financial documentation, examination of income tax issues applicable to the divorce settlement, providing analysis and recommendations for divorce mediation, assistance in preparing trial exhibits and expert analysis, as well as providing the client with financial recommendations for overall wealth structure and management that meets set goals for preservation, growth and income.
