Abstract:

Caring for Aging Parents
In this course, we’ll discuss how to effectively plan for the future. We will bust common myths about available care, care management, and costs of care. You will learn how to access and best utilize available care resources.  During the second half of the hour, we will discuss elders' main concerns, questions an estate plan must answer, and all of the mistakes to avoid while planning for your elder’s estate plan.

The Great Income Gap – Financial Planning for Extended Care
There are a number of concerns clients must take into consideration when planning for retirement.  This course will focus on the impact of the potential gap between a client’s retirement income plan and the excess costs for extended care.

Speaker: Dennis Toman, JD, CELA
Born on the plains of North Dakota, he was the oldest grandchild on one side of the family, and one of the youngest on the other. With all four grandparents, plenty of uncles and aunts, plus lots of cousins of all ages and two younger siblings, Dennis understood the love and laughter and closeness that family means. With all of his grandparents farmers, Dennis learned quickly what hard work, being frugal and planning ahead for hard times meant. As an Elder Care and Estate Planning attorney today, Dennis continues those values, and seeks to serve clients who need trusted guidance through uncertain times. Dennis founded The Elderlaw Firm with a mission of planning and protecting for local families, to be better prepared for elder care and other legal issues for the second half of life. Dennis has been blessed by his wonderful wife Lynne, and two sons. Dennis and Lynne met in 7th grade, but didn’t date until after high school. That’s because while Dennis has always been smart, he hasn’t always been very observant! Fortunately, he came around and they married before moving to North Carolina for law school. Dennis and Lynne have two sons now grown and away from home. Now their family includes their latest dogs: Bella and Bentley, who are therapy dogs and often help greet clients at the law firm.
